The award was established and is funded by the TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council. This award is given to a 12th grader (senior) enrolled in a Sarasota County School District public high school who has seen a need in the community and has created and implemented an original community service project to meet the identified need. The TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council Awards Committee selects one award winner for this $500 award.
The Bette Woodson Award memorializes Bette’s 15 years of dedicated service as a Sarasota County School District volunteer. This $500 award was established and is funded by the TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council. It is given to a 12th grader (senior) enrolled in a Sarasota County public high school who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to providing service within our community as verified by narrative/logs submitted with the application. The TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council Awards Committee selects one award winner.
In addition to the Kaighin and Woodson awards, the Council also offers the Freeman Orthodontics Inspiration Awards. These awards sponsored by Dr. David Freeman and Tiffany Caldwell are given to two high school seniors enrolled in Sarasota County School District public schools who have inspired others by overcoming unique and challenging circumstances while remaining in school and maintaining or improving academic achievement. Students who meet these criteria must be nominated by a teacher or counselor with written confirmation from the student’s high school principal. The nominator’s personal narrative supporting the nominee should include both the nature of the unique and challenging circumstances and how these circumstances have inspired others. The TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council Awards Committee selects two award winners, each receiving a $500 award.
